Introducing the Henning Hardened Hammer and Sear Pins.

The "Ultimate Trigger Kit" has now been improved with the release of the new hardened, oversized hammer pin, sear pin and the hammer pin pin. For years now I have installed and used the EGW hammer and sears in my competition pistols. The prepped hammer and sears along with my XL Firing Pin and a 13lb hammer spring can give you a nice, crisp 2lb trigger with a short reset. Sometimes you get a nice feeling trigger just by dropping the parts in the and other times you need to bring out the stones and do some work. The sear does need to be fitted to the safety.

To further improve on a great hammer and sear it is necessary to stabilize the parts in the frame. There are two major things to look at. The first, which has to be done by a gunsmith, is to secure the sear housing tightly to the frame. This has traditionally been done either by putting a couple of silver solder dabs on the side of the housing and filing them down until the sear housing slips into the frame tight.

The other thing is to install hardened, oversized hammer and sear pins. Let's start with the sear pin.

H092 Hardened Oversized Sear Pin
After measuring a lot of sear housings I've noticed the holes in the housing vary from 0.118" - 0.120". Now let's look at the factory sear pin and sear pin hole. These can vary from 0.116" - 0.118". Sloppy sear to sear housing fit relates to a sloppy trigger pull. The H092 Hardened Sear Pin measures 0.1200". This means the sear housing and the sear both need to be reamed to the pin. Since the sear housing often is 0.1200" it may not need to be reamed, but the sear definitely need to be. Finally you'll have a tight sear to sear housing fit !

H042 Hardened Oversized Hammer Pin
Measuring lots of frames I've seen them vary from 0.144" - 0.147". The hammer pin hole is 'typically' 0.145". The factory hammer pins can be 0.144" - 0.145". A sloppy fit allows the hammer to wobble and makes it impossible to tweak the trigger parts to that super light and crispy point. The H042 Hardened Hammer Pin measure 0.1470". To install it's necessary to ream the hammer pin hole and the right side of the frame to the same size. This will stop any hammer wobble.

H046 Hardened Hammer Pin Pin
The Hammer Pin Pin doesn't have any trigger fitting improvement benefit. However... if you look closely you will see that I've designed a little nipple at one end of it. One of the issues with the factory pin is that it gets stuck in the frame and it can be hard to get it to come out for disassembly. The nipple allows for the use of a small flat screwdriver or a knife edge. It does not require any reaming to install. They are also easy to loose when you disassemble the gun so I've made a 3-pack and spare parts kits available at better pricing.

Henning Hardened Pins vs Factory Pins
My pins are made from 416 stainless steel and heat treated to Rockwell 45. The factory pins wear over time, slowly causing the pin to get smaller ending in a sloppier and sloppier trigger parts fit. My pins will not wear.
